FDA Suspends Tasty Tom Production, Recalls Canned Products Over Safety Concerns

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has suspended the production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix, a popular household tomato brand in Ghana, following safety concerns. The suspension affects all canned variants of the product, as well as selected batches of the pouch-packaged versions.
In an official statement, the FDA explained that the decision was made after quality monitoring and surveillance activities revealed deviations from standard safety protocols. These lapses raised red flags regarding the safety and wholesomeness of some Tasty Tom products currently on the market.
As a result, the FDA has ordered an immediate recall of all Tasty Tom canned tomato products nationwide. In addition, specific batches of the product in pouches have also been marked for withdrawal. The authority has urged consumers, retailers, and distributors to cooperate with this directive to safeguard public health.

Consumers who have already purchased these products are advised not to use them and instead return them to the point of purchase or contact the FDA for further instructions. Meanwhile, the FDA says it is working closely with the manufacturers to rectify the issue and ensure that only safe, high-quality products return to the market.
The FDA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining strict food quality standards across all products sold in Ghana.
