Over 30 female students of the Federal University of Lafia in Nasarawa State have reportedly been raped following a series of violent attacks on off-campus hostels. Armed bandits and thugs targeted student-dominated areas such as Akunza, Gandu, and Burkan Kwato, where many undergraduates live due to limited campus accommodation.

In addition to the rapes, several students sustained machete wounds and other injuries during these late-night raids, which have left the university community in fear and distress.

These attacks are part of a disturbing trend of insecurity around the university, with criminal gangs taking advantage of poorly secured student settlements. Despite earlier warnings from university officials and rights activists about the rising number of rape cases in Nasarawa, particularly among minors and students, little had been done to address the growing threat.

The assaults have sparked widespread outrage, with calls for urgent government intervention, improved security in student hostels, and adequate support for the victims.
