The National Identification Authority (NIA) has declared its intention to prosecute Ghanaians who unlawfully vouch for foreign nationals attempting to obtain Ghana Cards. The authority emphasized that it is a criminal offense for a Ghanaian to guarantee the nationality of a non-citizen during the national ID registration process.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, August 4, 2025, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, revealed that 20 individuals are currently undergoing prosecution, including several Ghanaians who fraudulently vouched for foreigners.

Darlas cautioned against turning the vouching system into a commercial activity, warning those who endorse strangers for financial gain that they will be held accountable. “To those of you vouching for people you don’t even know—just to make money—be warned: we are coming for you,” he stated.

The NIA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the credibility of the national identification system and called on the public to report any suspicious activity related to the Ghana Card registration process.
